Suicide Squad Sets New Records

Suicide Squad opened domestically at $135 million, setting a new all-time record for August opening totals, and managed to surpass previous record holder Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy’s $94 million 2014 haul. While it remains to be seen how much of an effect the negative reviews have on Suicide Squad’s long term box office prospects, for right now, the film doesn’t look to be slowing down much financially.

Suicide Squad has earned over $326 million worldwide, in less than one week of its release. For the record, $161 million of that total was earned domestically.Suicide Squad has also set another record. Earning $14.2 million on Tuesday sets Squad as the all-time largest earner on a Tuesday in August, again knocking off previous record holder Guardians of the Galaxy. Additionally, Suicide Squad beat the Tuesday totals for fellow superhero blockbusters Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and its DCEU predecessor Batman V Superman.

Industry forecasters have predicted that the film will likely bring in another $50 million plus in its second weekend, and will easily retain the #1 spot.

It’s still doubtful that will Suicide Squad manages to break the domestic totals of either Batman V Superman's $330 million or Man of Steel's  $291 million.
